A Plain-English Explainer
What is ABA?
Applied Behavior Analysis, in language that doesn't require a clinical background. Written for parents and educators who want a clear answer before deciding whether to make a phone call.
Talk to UsABA in one paragraph
ABA — Applied Behavior Analysis — is the evidence-based practice of teaching meaningful skills (and reducing behaviors that get in the way) by observing what works for an individual student and adjusting in real time.
It is not a single program or technique. It is a framework: define the goal in concrete terms, watch how the student responds to different prompts and reinforcers, and adjust the plan based on what the data shows. The result is individualized — what works for one student rarely looks identical to what works for another.
In a school setting, ABA looks like a trained specialist working alongside a student in their regular classroom — reinforcing the lessons the teacher is already delivering, supporting the student through the tricky transitions of a school day, and tracking progress so the family, the school, and the supervising BCBA all see the same picture.
What ABA is not: a clinic visit, a separate room down the hall, a one-size-fits-all curriculum, or anything that pulls the child out of their normal community. The whole point is to meet the student where they already are.
How we practice it
Principle 01
Individualized
Every plan starts from a careful look at one specific student in one specific environment. Goals are written in plain language and updated as the student grows.
Principle 02
Evidence-based
Decisions are driven by data, not by hunch. A BCBA reviews the data regularly and adjusts the plan based on what is actually working.
Principle 03
In context
Skills are built where they need to be used — in the classroom, on the playground, at lunch — not in a clinic that the student then has to translate from.
Principle 04
Collaborative
Family, teacher, RBT, and BCBA work from the same playbook. The student sees consistent expectations across every part of the day.

FAQ
-
Is there really no cost to my school?
Correct. We bill insurance directly for in-school RBT support and BCBA supervision. Your school pays nothing — no fees, no retainers, and nothing passed on through tuition.
-
What insurance plans do you accept?
We're in-network with Aetna, Cigna, and Horizon BCBSNJ. If your plan isn't on that list, send it over before your first call and we'll verify benefits within one business day.
-
How long does the assessment take?
After the introductory call, the clinical assessment and insurance authorization typically take two to four weeks. We handle every step — your school doesn't carry any administrative load.
-
What's the difference between a BCBA and an RBT?
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a master's-level clinician who designs the treatment plan and supervises sessions. A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is the clinician working 1:1 with your student in the classroom, implementing the plan and taking data.

Can my child stay in their current school?
Yes. That's the whole point. Our specialists come to your child's classroom so the student doesn't have to leave the school they love or the community they're part of.
